Police Make Arrest in Recent Church Burglary

On March 10, 2024, deputies responded to the New Shilo Baptist Church located on County Road 242 which in the Colt area where they met the complainant who reported that someone broke into the church.  The complainant reported that the suspect pushed in an air conditioning unit located at the back to gain entry.  The suspect then went through several drawers and cabinets and took approximately $40 dollars from under the podium.  On March 19, 2024, Tyler Watlington 31-years-old of Colt was arrested on an unrelated incident.  Investigators later interviewed Watlington who admitted to breaking into the church and taking the money.  Watlington now faces a new charge of Commercial Burglary a Class C Felony and is scheduled to appear before the judge today.  Watlington is currently on probation for a Residential Burglary from back in 2022, where he received a 5-year probation sentence.
