The Arkansas Department of Health recently announced that Otis Smith of the St Francis County Sheriff’s Department is being honored as the recipient of the 2018 Arkansas Highway Safety Combating Impaired Driving Service Award at the upcoming Arkansas Highway Safety Awards Luncheon on September 6th in Little Rock.

Otis began service with the St Francis County Sheriff’s Department in August of 1991 and currently serves as the Chief Deputy Jailer and the Senior Operator in Charge of the BAC Datamaster machine to test alcohol levels of impaired drivers. In addition, he serves as a Reserve Deputy with the Sheriff’s Department and with the Wheatley Fire Department.

“We are extremely proud to have one of our own recognized on a statewide level for their efforts and Otis is certainly of the caliber that this award is warranted,” commented Sheriff Bobby May. “He has worked many years and ran countless alcohol tests to help combat the problem of impaired driving in our county and we are certainly glad he is being honored for those efforts.”
