We wanted to give an update on the operations of the Sheriff's Department and Jail considering the Covid-19 situation that we are all facing.

The sheriff's department is still responding to all calls for service as always but will handle non-emergency reports by phone or exercising social distancing to help protect the public and our employees. We have had local volunteers offer to make reusable face masks and they will be issued to first responders to be used as needed until we get supplies restocked.

The jail is still closed for face to face meetings and visitations. Visitations are still being conducted as normal via our online visitation system. All individuals who are brought to the jail are being medically screened.

The Sheriff's Department is part of the St Francis County Corona Virus Task Force, with representatives of county government, local municipalities, emergency management, fire departments, health department, businesses, health care providers, and others. We have been meeting regularly since before the outbreak began and are remaining in constant contact via email and text as things progress in our region. We are making pro active plans to address the situation once active cases are discovered in our county.

Under Arkansas Statutes law enforcement officers are authorized to enforce the mandates from the Governor regarding businesses that are to be closed. We are extremely thankful that the citizens and businesses in our county have been complying on their own with these mandates that are designed to help with this health emergency.

We know that the citizens in our county are adjusting to the changes that are going on right now and will continue to adjust as needed for the wellbeing of themselves and others.

We are encouraging everyone to monitor information on Covid-19 via the Arkansas Dept of Health Website as well as local media outlets for up to date local information.

The St Francis County Sheriff's Department know that this situation is trying for us all. However, we recently saw a social media post that really speaks volumes and we wanted to share it.

"The reports are that the truckers are getting supplies to the stores. People are stocking the shelves all night and letting old people shop first. Carnival Cruise line told Trump "We can match those big Navy Hospital ships with some fully staffed cruise ships" GM said hold our cars and watch this; we can make those ventilators where we were making cars starting next week. Women and children are making homemade masks and handing out snacks to truckers. Restaurants and schools said, We've got kitchens and staff; we can feed kids." Churches are holding on-line services and taking care of their members and community. NBA basketball players said, "Hold our basketballs while we write checks to pay the arena staff." Construction companies said, "Here are some masks for the medical staff and doctors". Breweries are switching to making sanitizers. We thought we couldn't live without Baseball, NASCAR, NBA or going to the beach, restaurants or a bar. Instead, we're trying to keep those businesses open by ordering take-out and watching things on TV instead of in person.

I think a Japanese Admiral in the middle of the Pacific said it best in 1941, "I think we have awakened a sleeping giant (in regards to the US being committed to winning)."

Give us a few more weeks (maybe months) and we will be doing much better!

Sharing this from another FB friend. We have wonderful country and an amazing God.

I know we will be ok "
