Child recovering after being shot over the weekend
St. Francis County Sheriff Deputies responded to a shooting at 119 Hadley St. in Madison, Arkansas Saturday evening around 10:00pm. The victim a 9-year-old male was standing in the road when deputies arrived. The victim had a gunshot wound to his hand and upper body. Deputies rendered aid until emergency personnel arrived. The victim was transported to Forrest City Medical Center and later transferred to LeBonhuer Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN and is in stable condition. During the investigation it was determined the suspect Jaquan Oliver 19-year-old of Forrest City walked up to a young group of boys and showed them the gun. Oliver then was going to shoot the gun in the air when it jammed. Oliver walked into the apartment with the young boys and set the gun on the dining room table when the gun went off striking the victim. The victim ran then over to a neighbor's who called 911. Investigators did recover one spent shell casing from inside the residence and a AR style .223 caliber rifle from the trash can next to the apartment where Oliver tried to hid it. Investigators were also able to determine that a 15-year-old, a 10-year-old and a 1-year-old were also inside the apartment when the shooting occurred. Oliver was still present at the scene and he was taken into custody without incident. Jaquan Oliver is charged with Battery 1st Degree a Class B Felony, 3-Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor and Tampering with Physical Evidence a Class D Felony. His bond was set a $50,000 and will be arraigned today in St. Francis County District Court.
