On Saturday, October 24, 2026, the Forrest City Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 222 Higgins St. in Palestine, Arkansas.  Upon arrival and during the operations, fire personnel located a deceased individual inside the residence.  The remains will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for positive identification.  At this time, no foul play is suspected.  Fire personnel also noted that no smoke alarms were present inside the residence.  As we enter the time of year when clocks are turned back for daylight saving time, the Forrest City Fire Department reminds all residents to check their smoke alarms and replace batteries as needed.  Working smoke alarms provide an early warning in the event of a fire and can significantly increase the chances of survival.  The St. Francis County Sheriff's Department and the Forrest City Fire Department extends its thoughts and prayers to the family effected by this tragic event.
