Man Drowns Trying to Retrieve Fishing Pole

On Saturday evening at approximately 7:18pm St. Francis County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to County Road 418, off of Highway 284 in reference to a person going into the water and not coming out.  Deputies along with the New Castle Fire Department arrived on the scene.  A witness who was there fishing with Fredrick Joyce reported that they had been fishing at the pond when he had waded into the water to retrieve his fishing pole when she lost sight of him.  The body of Fredrick Joyce 55-years of age of Forrest City was recovered by first responders in about six feet of water. This is a tragic incident and should serve as a reminder that you have to be mindful when wading out into the water.
