On June 14, 2023, around 6:05 pm the Sheriff Department was notified by the Lee County authorities that a black Ford Fiesta had fled from them and was headed north on Highway-1. An St. Francis County Deputy located and attempted to stop the vehicle on South Washington when the driver fled.  The pursuit continued down through some residential streets and ended up on West Broadway by the By-Pass. The pursuit continued west on Highway-70 where speeds reached over 100 mph.  A Wheatley officer attempted to set out stop sticks on Highway-70 in Goodwin, but the vehicle ran off the road avoiding them and continued on.  The Arkansas State Police assisted and placed additional stop sticks west of Wheatley where the vehicle ran over them, and the vehicle became disabled.  The driver then fled on foot and was taken into custody without incident.  The driver was identified as 22-year-old James White of Marianna, Ar.  White faces several charges including Felony fleeing in a vehicle, fleeing on foot, Reckless Driving, Speeding and No Driver License.  He is scheduled to appear in St. Francis District Court.
