On June 14, 2023, around 10:45pm an St. Francis County deputy who is assigned to the I-40 Interstate attempted to stop a Black Dodge Charger with a temporary Tennessee drive out tag for speeding.  The deputy reported the vehicle was traveling 97mph when he first clocked him.  The vehicle pulled over at the 247 westbound off ramp.  The driver then started turning his headlights off and on attempting to hid from the deputy when he lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree where four black males exited the vehicle and fled on foot.  A search of the vehicle revealed several handguns and ammunition where one of the handguns was reported stolen out of South Haven, Mississippi. None of the occupants were located and the investigation is on-going.
