Man out on bond is back in jail facing new drug and firearm charges

On October 18, 2023, investigators with the St. Francis County Sheriff Department executed two search warrants in Hughes, Arkansas.  Davone Montgomery, 23-years-old of Hughes was taken into custody at his residence on Maple Street without incident.  Montgomery is charged with Battery 1st Degree and Possession of a Firearm by a Certain Person in connection with a shooting that occurred on Maple Street back on October 2, 2023.  A second search warrant was executed on South Cowan Street.  Investigators were looking for the firearms used in the shooting at both residences.  Ardell Smith, 20-years-old of Hughes was at his residence and was arrested after investigators located over 38 grams of marijuana, scales and other drug paraphernalia, one handgun and one AR style rifle.  Smith was taken into custody and then fled from officers where he ran into a wooded area.  Smith was taken back into custody about two hours later.  The Sheriff Department would like to thank the Arkansas State Police, the Arkansas Game & Fish, and the Arkansas Department of Corrections for their assistance. Smith was currently out on bond for Battery 1st Degree for his involvement in the shooting.  Smith faces new charges that include, Possession of a Controlled Substance with Purpose to Deliver a schedule V1 marijuana, Simultaneous Possession Drugs and Firearms, Drug Paraphernalia, Escape 2nd Degree and Fleeing. Smith is scheduled for arraignment Friday morning.
